Lately, when I’ve been interviewed about smoking cessation, the host will usually ask, “Isn’t nicotine addiction the reason most people are not able to successfully quit smoking?” They are surprised when I tell them nicotine is not a real addictive substance because it doesn’t have the characteristics of an addictive substance. It might sound silly because you aren’t doing anything active per se, but it works for lots of people, better than anything else. I do not know one single person that actually picks up a cigarette and says to themselves that it was lovely, that smoking really tastes great. Do you know anyone that does, i do not think so. You know you have to quit, your body rejects smoke. It makes you cough, and your lungs nearly come out of your mouth, and your body is screaming out to you to tell you this is bad stuff. You probably started smoking because you were young and dumb, and in your mind you though that it would be cool to smoke, or you wanted to be big, and as you smoked more and more cigarettes you became more and more addicted.
The truth is that when you quit smoking you are helping yourself against certain diseases that are related nicotine addiction. If for nothing you might escape from lung cancer that is commonly suffered by smokers.
How about taking a few lessons on what lung cancer looks like? I’d bet if you could see what the long-term effects of smoking can do to you, you can convince yourself it is not what you want. Give it a shot, will you. And if it does not work, then we can try something else. The earlier you quit smoking, the better for you.
